Hi hi!
It's week 7 and I have quite a bit of updates. The first half of the semester is over and next week is the two week teaching recess, I can't believe it! Me and my friends are going to the south island for a week and I cannot wait. I know everyone's plans for their break are going to be different, so instead of talking about that I wanted to give you things to do close to Hamilton that are only a bus ride away.
Hiking
Hiking is really big here in New Zealand because of the beautiful mountains and scenery that surrounds everything. I recently went on a hiking trail called the Hakarimata Summit Trail about 40 minutes away by bus. It took about four hours for the whole thing, and the view at the top was so worth it. I will warn you, the whole thing is walking up stairs to the top, so my legs for the next week were numb but in the best way possible. I feel like it's absolutely necessary to go on a proper hike while in New Zealand.
Beaches
Hamilton is close to the west coast of the north island of NZ, so there are some stunning beaches that you can bus to. The most popular beach around here is called Raglan, and it's about an hour bus ride away. Not only can you go surfing here and go in the ocean, the town of Raglan is also just as beautiful. Also, you can venture off to the smaller beaches around Raglan that are about a 20 minutes drive away to see some really amazing black sand beaches.
Waterfalls
Another must do thing while in New Zealand is to see the waterfalls it has to offer. I recently went to a place called Bridal Veil Falls about an hour ride away and it was so incredible. There are a ton of different waterfalls that you can go see when in Hamilton, but Bridal Veil Falls was by far my favorite thus far.
