Hey guys!
This past month I went on a couple school trips that I highly recommend. The student center here puts together a couple of trips for the international students to explore New Zealand and experience some cool places.
Trip 1. Hobbiton
This trip was about two hours away and it took place at the set of The Hobbit movies. A tour guide took us around and pointed out a lot of features and scenes in the movies. I've personally never been into The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings movies but this set was absolutely beautiful. I feel like a more cultured kiwi after being here.
Trip 2. Waikite Valley Thermal Pools
This trip was also about two hours away in Waikite Valley. This place is the largest single source of naturally occurring pure geothermal water in New Zealand that was made into a place to bathe. There were pools all filled with water 38-40 degrees Celsius. Besides the pools, there was also a route to walk on to see all of the steam coming from the ground and a lookout over the water which is where both of the photos were taken.
Trip 3. Kerosine Creek in Rotoura
Kerosine Creek is a naturally occurring hot water creek in Rotoura about 2.5 hours away. We drove out there on a bus and we started the trip off by doing a 3 km hike to get to the creek. Once we got to the creek, everyone put their bathing suits on and jumped in. Doing the short hike beforehand made the water feel even better.
There was a fourth trip to the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves, but I missed the deadline for that one. However, if you have the opportunity to go to any of these places, I would say to go! They provide a bus to take you there and back and also give you a packed lunch, it's worth it.
