Phone Situation?

Hey guys,

I just wanted to talk to you all about an issue I experienced with my phone when getting here in case you have the same issue.

One of the things I was worried about the most before getting here was how I was going to use my phone. I didn’t have a service provider that had an international plan, so I just figured I would buy a sim card when I got here. When I got to my room in College Hall, there was a sim card given to me with $9 worth of data on it from 2degree. I was thinking how convenient! When I put the sim card in my phone, it said that it cannot be used because my phone is locked to my carrier. If my phone wasn’t locked, this would be the best way to use my phone and just pay monthly for data and texts. Since my luck fails me sometimes, my phone was locked, so I went to the Warehouse and I bought the cheapest NZ phone from the Vodaphone carrier for $39 NZD in case there is an emergency. The phone I brought with me that is locked can only be used with Wi-Fi, which is almost always because there is free Wi-Fi all over campus and on the buses. I’ve also been using WhatsApp to call and text my family and friends back home. I’ve been here for three weeks and I haven’t even used my phone I bought here because I feel like whenever I leave campus my friends always have the GPS going. Also I feel like it’s kind of nice not being on my phone all the time because I’m really learning about the people I’ve surrounded myself with and taking in all of the stimulus that’s being thrown at me, so it's not a big deal.

Another little update on me:

I can for sure say that I'm still in the honeymoon phase here. I've been walking around campus just taking pictures for most of my day and sitting by the lake with a latte. I'm waiting for the homesickness, but I honestly never want to leave. The people here are so amazing I don't know how I'm going to leave them.

Here are some pics of campus!
